Inwards and Outwards – Anton Corbijn

Anton Corbijn Opening Receiption Fotografiska January 2012

It was a real pleasure to attend the opening receiption for “Inwards and Outwards” at Fotografiska. An exhibition held in honour of Anton Corbjin the world renowned Dutch Photographer, Music Video and Film Director.  I am a big fan of Corbijn’s Photography and Film work and I have followed his successful career with a keen interest since the late 70′s and early 80′s. It was during this time that Anton Corbijn journey began into the unknown. Like many of us in our early twenties who moved London we were sucked up by the explosion of new and emerging New Wave, Punk Rock bands and Art scenes. Continue reading

Totally Modern!!!

Turner Monet Twombly

This autumn, Moderna Museet Stockholm, Sweden, will present an overview of the beginnings of modern art. The three exhibitions Turner, Monet, Twombly: Later Paintings; Another Story; and De ou par Marcel Duchamp pae Ulf Linde offer a unique opportunity to experience the way that painting, photography, and ideas converge to form Modernism in a collaboration between eye, hand, machine, and brain.

The exhibitions are supported by a busy program of events, which will be launched with three lectures about J.M.W. Turner, Claude Monet, and Cy Twombly. These will be complimented by a symposium on the concept of Late Style, a programme of films and conversation on Marcel Duchamp. The high points of Modernism will be encapsulated in lectures on key concepts in the history of aesthetics. The autumn’s activities will conclude with a symposium on the relationship between painting and photography.

Please see www.modernamuseet.se for dates and venues. Continue reading

It was during this period that we had a chance meeting during an art preview at Sweden’s most prestigious auction house Bukowskis, summer of 2006. Continue reading

Swedish Artist Stig Claessen Retrospective @ Kultushuset

LAST SUNDAY, I made a planned visit to Kulturhuset / House of Culture to view a retrospective by the highly praised Swedish artist Stig Claessen. Kulturhuset is a controversial symbol for Stockholm and the growth of modernism in Sweden but for me and many others I know it  is one of the worlds best architectural buildings designed by Peter Celsing as a proactive centre of culture. Located city centre to the south of Sergels Torg central Stockholm Kulturhuset has become a significant hub of human activity 24/7. I try to visit once a week to share some downtime with the family and to enjoy the atmosphere of the open spaces and the art of a well curated exhibition.

Its going to be very interesting to see how the biding goes at the forthcoming sale of Urban Graffiti Artworks at Bonhams Auction House, New Bond Street, London, UK. Its been a very difficult time for urban art during the current recession with prices falling dramatically since previous record sales achieved during the boom years. There has never been a better time to buy highly collectible urban art than now and should you have the Wanda to spare do not hesitate to invest your hard earned cash on the 21st September at Bonhams to secure a safe long term investment.
