Inwards and Outwards – Anton Corbijn

Anton Corbijn Opening Receiption Fotografiska January 2012

It was a real pleasure to attend the opening receiption for “Inwards and Outwards” at Fotografiska. An exhibition held in honour of Anton Corbjin the world renowned Dutch Photographer, Music Video and Film Director.  I am a big fan of Corbijn’s Photography and Film work and I have followed his successful career with a keen interest since the late 70′s and early 80′s. It was during this time that Anton Corbijn journey began into the unknown. Like many of us in our early twenties who moved London we were sucked up by the explosion of new and emerging New Wave, Punk Rock bands and Art scenes. Continue reading

West-Den Hagg Presents Six Pieces by Reynold Reynolds

Reynold Reynolds Secret Life

I first came across the artwork of Berlin based American artist  filmmaker Reynold Reynolds back in December 2004. I was doing some research in Berlin Germany at the time and made a chance visit to Kunstlerhaus Bethanien where she was having an exhibition. I was also fortunate enough to make it to her show at the White Cube Umeå Sweden 2005 which was well worth the journey from my home base in Stockholm. Its been a couple of years since I had the opportunity to catch up with Reynolds but I was totally blow away by her latest master works “Six Pieces”. If your touring Holland over the coming weeks I would highly recommend viewing Reynolds first ever exhibition at gallery WEST- Den Hagg in the Netherlands which is a real eye opener and a tour de force!!! I have included below press release from West and links for your viewing. Continue reading

I have a very special place in my heart and mind for New York City. I spent several years of my life living and working there during the late 80′s and early 90′s. New York City simply offers endless opportunity in a challenging environment to develop your photographic talents. So, it is with grate anticipation I await the opening reception this Thursday by American Street Photographer Helen Levitt at Fotografiska in Stockholm, Sweden. Urban Lyrics presents an extensive photographic retrospective of Helen Levitt‘s oeuvre. Helen Levitt is one of the 20th century’s foremost photographers and a pioneer of the “street photography” movement. She was a true old school master and her techniques have produced some of the most incredible and memorable vintage prints to be seen of New York City Street photography during that period.  Her imagery rapidly captures your soul  and opens it right up to reveal a new and invigorating visual experience!!! Urban Lyrics is curated by Jorge Ribalta in conjunction with HAC friend and Fotografiska curator Maria Patomella. Continue reading

If you haven’t been…

Historical Images

I highly recommend a visit to Moderna Museet, The Modern Museum, here in Stockholm. A current exhibit REALITY REVISITED, is brilliant and definitely worth a visit. This exhibition features more than 300 photographs from the 1970s, by some 80 photographers hailing mainly from the USA and Sweden. It gives us a look into diverse realities, personalities and narratives on life and art. The featured photographers represent classic black-and-white photography, but they have used various ways to develop their own expressive style.
Just spend a few hours of your day, having a look and a lunch, possibly a glas of wine too.
